Privacy Policy

The Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation (PMSF) is a registered U.S. charity whose aims are to support people with Phelan-McDermid syndrome and their families. A complete set of strategic goals is published on this website and in incorporation papers.

Data We Collect And How We Use It

We seek to capture and hold data for 7 main reasons, and only the data that is needed to carry out our business as a not-for-profit organization serving people and families impacted by Phelan-McDermid syndrome:

Data Sharing

A list of PMSF families is shared with the Phelan-McDermid syndrome community, excluding families that choose to not share their information. Agreement is obtained from families before sharing their data with other charities, partner organizations or research projects. We don't sell data nor allow it to be used for marketing purposes. When you leave our website control over your data passes to the external site, so please read their privacy policy.

Data Retention

We retain data for as long as families are happy for us to do so. We will remove or alter data at a family’s request.

Our Responsibilities

Keep personal data secure by safely sharing it only with PMSF staff that require it. Share the list of PMSF members only with regional reps and, by agreement, the Phelan-McDermid syndrome community. Share scholarship information only with those responsible for award decisions. We protect all data from loss, misuse or alteration.

Your Rights

You may request information about how your personal data is processed; a copy of your personal data; or that your personal data be corrected immediately. You may object to how your personal data is processed, request that it be erased if retention is not justified, or ask that the processing of your personal data be restricted in certain circumstances.

Policy Changes

Notification of policy changes will be posted on our website, and published in the Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation (PMSF) Annual Report. The PMSF may also notify families and supporters of policy changes through other standard forms of communication, such as the monthly newsletter.
