One Hundred New PMSF Families have had access to the “First 100 Days” Welcome Program!

One year ago, we started the “First 100 Days” welcome program for new members of the Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation living in the United States. This program offers our new families intensive, personal, and differentiated support provided by our Family Support Specialist, Carla D’Imperio.

We’re celebrating today because the Cohick family is the ONE HUNDREDTH family to have had the opportunity to participate in our “First 100 Days” program!

Betsy and Alex Cohick are new PMSF members from Pennsylvania who joined our membership back in June. Alex was recently diagnosed with Phelan-McDermid syndrome at age 33. Since then, Betsy has participated in our “First 100 Days” welcome program for new members. She has attended the whole series of Zoom sessions and taken advantage of everything the program has to offer.

Here’s a little about Betsy’s experience with the “First 100 Days” in her own words:

“The Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation is a wonderful organization of families and leaders who have been so helpful and caring. The “First 100 Days” Zoom meetings were very helpful, full of information, and gave me a sense of welcome and belonging.

“The resources to guide our physicians, dentists, and mental health professionals have been great. I’m relieved that we are finding some answers to things we questioned for so long. I’m hopeful that we will learn things now that will help increase our son’s comfort and quality of life. And we are excited about going to the Pennsylvania picnic this weekend!”

Thank you to Betsy and to all of our new members who have helped make the “First 100 Days” program a success. If you want to learn more about this program or any of our other Family Support programs, please email Carla D’Imperio, our Family Support Specialist, at carla@pmsf.org.
